This year will mark the 7th time that the Brick Stars Challenger Hockey Program will face off against the USA Warriors Ice Hockey Program at the Avon Pond, in Avon NJ for the 7th Annual Challenger Winter Classic.
The day is always a special day for all who participate & attend. The Brick Stars is an ice hockey program for children & young adults with development disabilities. It was founded by Alex De Palma in 2009 and has grown into a 501(c)(3) program that teaches & coaches over 60 children. The USA Warriors Ice Hockey Program, a 501(c)(3), has operated for charitable & educational purposes, for those wounded in defense of the United States of America. The program educates, trains, motivates, and encourages the formation of USA Warriors Hockey programs locally & nationally while encouraging individuals who have physical disabilities incurred during service to the United States to participate in the sport of ice hockey in an environment that is adapted to their level of abilities. The Avon Pond is a rink located in The Avon Volunteer Park. It’s a 60’x120′ open air rink purchased & maintained by a group of hockey parents & maintained by many volunteers.
This years game will be held on Super Bowl Sunday at 12PM. The game will be attended by NJ Devil Alumni, local HS Hockey program players, local youth hockey organizations, the USA Military Color Guard & special guests to drop the game puck. The day also features NHL auction items, a bake sale, event sweatshirts, outdoor grilled items & prizes. 100% of every dollar goes to the Brick Stars program with a portion donated to the Warriors. A rare hockey event with no penalties, no yelling, no ice time issues & no loser. On this day, everyone leaves with a smile & is a winner! Please come out & enjoy a great day for hockey!
