The NJ Warriors held their very first organizational skate Saturday May 18, 2019 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Skating on the practice rink of the New Jersey Devils the vets hit the ice with player/coach Navy veteran Bob Gialanella. With 14 skaters and 3 goaltenders the Warriors went through a spirited one hour practice. Joining them was New Jersey Devils Alumni and Stanley Cup winner Bruce Driver, NJ Warriors President Mark Puttenvink, Vice-President Ted Curtin and Treasurer Elliot Vorel.

The NJ Warriors owe an immense amount of thanks to the New Jersey Devils and in particular to Kevin Fox from the Devils Community Investment and Grassroots program. Besides providing ice time at the New Jersey Devils practice facility, NJ Warriors practice jerseys, socks, hockey tape and water was waiting for the vets in each player stall. The Devils went all out to make the vets feel like pro players.

It was a great first skate as the NJ Warriors are on the road to providing a great experience for our wounded veterans.
It was a great way to honor our wounded vets on Armed Forces Day.
