USA HOCKEY ANNOUNCES CLINIC PLANS AND TEMPORARY CARD OPTION

All registered coaches were sent this email on June 4 by USA Hockey.

If you opt-out of USA Hockey emails, you would not have received it, so the contents are provided here.

On behalf of USA Hockey, the Atlantic District Coaching Program, and the Atlantic Amateur Hockey Association, we hope that your family is healthy and safe! As our region begins to open, we look forward to the day we are all back on the ice!

With the current situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have taken a hard look at how we will be delivering USA Hockey’s Coaching Education Program, realizing the possibility that in-person clinics this season may be different based upon social gathering criteria set by each state.

That being said, we are excited to be moving forward with online virtual clinics starting this summer. We will begin posting these clinics by end of June! If you don't see an open clinic, wait a day or two.

You can register for a virtual clinic just like you have done in the past at: usahockey.com/coachingclinics

Our goal is to have in-person clinics as soon as they are allowed and safe for all participants.

We understand that these are very different, challenging and uncertain times for everyone. So, this season, we will offer a Temporary Card for all coaches that may feel this is the best option for them during this pandemic. The Temporary Card will allow each coach to have the proper level of certification for the 2020-21 season without attending a clinic. The Temporary Card option will be offered for COVID-19 reasons only through June 30, 2020.

Please click here to register for the Temporary Card online or download the form that you will need to complete and submit to the USA Hockey national office. If you opt for the Temporary Card, but later change your mind, you may apply the fee to an upcoming Virtual Clinic. To do so, simply contact Mike.Lichtenberger@gmail.com or phone 610.849.0818 to be accommodated.

You must have a current 2020*2021 Membership Registration before you request a Temporary Card

Register with USA Hockey: membership.usahockey.com

To start your season with players, now is a great time to complete remaining coaching program requirements. THESE MUST BE CURRENT PRIOR TO YOUR INVOLVEMENT ON-ICE, OFF-ICE, OR OTHER TEAM ACTIVITIES.

This information is being sent to Atlantic District coaches and team managers for the 2019-20 season. Before I go into detail there is a concern you should be aware of. If you opted out of receiving emails from USA Hockey, we are not permitted to send them electronically to you. please, if you know other coaches in your hockey association or club, forward this to them. There is information here that may be of value to them as we move into the 2020- 2021 season.

Fulfilling Coaching Clinic Requirements for the 2020*2021 Season

The Atlantic District of USA Hockey has decided to offer three clinic options this fall for Levels 1 through 4:

  1. Temporary Card Option:
Realizing that many coaches (a) may not want to attend in person for health reasons, or (b) may not have the at- home capability to participate online, USA Hockey will be offering a special “Temporary Card” option. This option will only be available for the month of June. It will extend your current coaching level for the 2020-2021 season.

See links on prior page to download Temp Card Application. It must be submitted prior to June 30, 2020.

  2. On-Line Clinics:

Most clinics will be done online. We will be using the ZOOM video conferencing software. You will need to access the virtual clinic through this app. For the best experience, we prefer you use a computer desktop or tablet device. Cell phones are less efficient. There is no cost for you to use ZOOM.

Zoom will allow us to use “breakout” rooms where your clinic session can feature small-group discussions as part of the learning experience. To make clinics more manageable, each one will be broken up into two, 2- to 3-hour sessions. We expect that we will schedule these sessions on Monday & Wednesday evenings for Level 1; Tuesday & Thursday evenings for Level 2. CEP Level 3 will be scheduled on the weekends. CEP Level 4, now a one-day clinic experience, will also be scheduled on a weekend but not until after September 1st.

Finally, please keep in mind that you need a strong, reliable internet connection to participate in clinics in this way. You can enroll in the same way as an in-person clinic. We will have clinics posted by July 1.

  3. In-Person Clinics:

Some clinics may still be offered in-person. Most of my staff of instructors are willing to do in-person clinics, with the assurance that various safety factors, as recommended by the authorities, will be implemented. Attendance will likely be very limited, there will be no wait listing, and no walk-ins will be accepted at the door.
