The U.S.A. Hockey National Tournament entered day two today as teams continued to compete across the country.
The 15O NJ Avalanche team defeated Team Alaska in Dallas, Texas during a high-scoring game of 6-5. The Avalanche were able to capitalize on two power plays in the first and second periods when Richard Rucireto and Brady Silverman each scored goals. The third period began with a 5-2 score favoring the Avalanche. Team Alaska fought back in the third period, sinking 3 more goals, two of which were scored by Dantae Hunziker, but it was not enough to overtake the Avalanche, who also earned a goal in the third period scored by Anthony Cappello.
In Maryland Heights, Missouri, The 16U New Jersey Rockets defeated Minnesota’s Shattuck-St. Mary’s. Minnesota scored first, but the Rockets went on to score three unanswered goals. Tyler Peddle scored a goal for Shattuck-St. Mary’s with 18 seconds left in the third, but it wasn’t enough to overtake The Rockets, who won 3-2. The New Jersey team is now leading USA pool play.
