Busses, hockey sleds, food, and heartfelt reunions swarmed the front of the Ice Vault Arena rink in Wayne, New Jersey last night.

The Sled Classic, a weekend-long tournament in which sled hockey teams from all over the country meet to compete and celebrate sled hockey, is being hosted by the New Jersey Devils this year. The event is sponsored by the NHL, and this year will mark the 11th year the tournament has taken place.

“Going into yesterday I was anxious, excited, eager to play,”  Chris Baucom, a member of the Carolina Hurricanes said.

The event kicked off yesterday, Nov. 18, at 4 p.m. with the first game of the weekend. The Chicago Blackhawks took on the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres dominated with a final score of 3-0.

The games continued with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Colorado Avalanche, Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers, and New York Islanders coming out on top of their games.

The Hurricanes were not able to secure a win yesterday, but players were still looking forward to the weekend.

“We’re looking forward to the ice time,” David Wolter, another Hurricane, said. “The competition is definitely out there. Going into this next game, let’s just have fun.”
