PITTSBURGH, P.A. - The Philadelphia Jr. Flyers took on the East Coast Wizards Friday morning in round two of pool play. Only a minute into the game, the Jr. Flyers started back on their scoring ways as Thalia Delia got her first of the tournament.

The rest of the first period saw the Wizards trying to find a way to even the score, but Jr. Flyers’ goaltender Jillian Wexler was not letting anything through. The first period came to an end as the Jr. Flyers entered the locker room up 1-0.

Moving into the second period, at only 30 seconds in, the Wizards almost got a goal to tie the game but an offside call wiped out the goal. Eventually the Wizards were able to get the goal as Gwyneth Lapp scored on the break away to tie the game at 1.

Eight minutes later the Jr. Flyers took back the lead on a power play goal scored by Giavanni Mancy. The shot deflected off of her and trickled its way past the goal line. Following the Mancy goal, the Wizards went on the attack, crashing the crease but they were not able to find the back of the net.

As the second period comes to a close, the Jr. Flyers still held a one-goal advantage over the Wizards. Entering the third period, the Wizards continued their aggressive playing style to try to tie the game once again.

Their aggressive play style came back to haunt them as Giavanna Mancy scored her second goal of the game on a breakaway opportunity. The Jr. Flyers were not letting any opportunity pass them by. This goal extended the lead to two goals.

A 3-1 lead with four minutes left in the game gave them some breathing room. As the game progressed, the Wizards pulled their goalie to apply more pressure. The Jr. Flyers took advantage, scoring an empty net goal to make it a three-goal advantage.

With the win, the Jr. Flyers improve their record to 2-0-0 in the Olympic pool.

The Jr. Flyers’ goaltender made 26 saves on 27 shots against her in the 4-1 victory. This win puts the Jr. Flyers in the driver’s seat to win the pool, with the final round of pool play scheduled for Saturday.
