EAST WINDSOR, N.J. - The Atlantic Amateur Hockey Association held its Annual Meeting on Thursday, June 23 and announced several new initiatives for the 2022-2023 season. The following topics were presented to members of the Board:

  1. A moment of silence was held for individuals in the hockey community who passed away over the past year. Ron Goodman who served as Vice President of Protests, Suspensions and Appeals for 25 years was among those remembered.

  2. A revised spectator abuse policy was distributed that carries severe and progressive penalties for individuals who act in an abusive manner, particularly when directed at players, coaches, and officials.

  3. The Tournament Committee will be named and begin meeting in the next few weeks to establish the process for advancement of teams to District tournament play. The committee will include representatives from the cross-sections of our Affiliate and a finalized plan will be released around August 1.

  4. Members of the Executive Committee were re-elected including Ken Anderson (Vice President of Rinks), John Graves (Vice President of High Schools), and Pat Ferrill (Vice President of Adult Hockey). Frank McGady and Gene Palecco were re-elected as USA Hockey Directors. A special election was held to fill the seat formerly occupied by Ron Goodman. Mike Lichtenberger, former Coach-in-Chief, was nominated and elected.

  5. The new Coach-in-Chief, Ryan Carter, was selected by USA Hockey and announced to the Board.

  6. Other proposals, including housekeeping changes and updates to better align with current procedures were appropriately handled by the Board.

The next meeting of the Board of Directors will take place on January 26, 2023. The time and location will be announced at a later date.

The Affiliate thanks all members of the Board for their time and dedication to amateur hockey in our footprint. New members will be seated as of July 1, 2023. For zones that did not yet hold elections, AAHA leadership will be organizing that effort in the coming weeks.

The Atlantic Affiliate wishes all of its members a happy and safe summer.
