CALGARY, Alberta - Team USA's under-18 women's team traveled to Canada for their annual summer hockey showcase. Throughout the games, the team displayed their talent and skillset on an international stage.

Two women, Rose Dwyer and Ava Thomas, from the Atlantic Affiliate made their mark on the ice following a competitive tryout process at development camps earlier this summer. Before selection to the U-18 team, they were teammates on the Philadelphia Junior Flyers at the 16U level. During the 2021-2022 season, the Junior Flyers were among the best teams in the Atlantic Affiliate with 50 wins, 28 losses, and 5 ties. Dwyer and Thomas were recognized for their play on each side of the ice. Dwyer was among one of the best defenders in the conference, as she shut down the opposing attack whenever she was challenged. Ultimately, her efforts on the defensive end earned her a spot in the USA-S15 and USA Under-18 teams.

Meanwhile, Thomas made her name known on the offensive side of the ice. Thomas played for the WSI U14, USA-S15, and USA-16/17 before getting her shot with the U-18 team. To make it to the team, she advanced her way through the 16/17 camp to the U18 Select camp. From there, she moved on to the USA Hockey Women’s Festival before getting her spot on the U-18 roster.

Even though the United States struggled against Canada throughout the series, Dwyer and Thomas each played well. Dwyer notched an assist in the second game. The goal ended up tying the game. In the meantime, Thomas demonstrated the perseverance that got her to the international stage throughout the entire series. She played physically and fought for every puck sent her way. Dwyer, Thomas, and the entire team will look to bounce back at the IIHF U18 Women’s World Championships, which take place January 8-15 in Sweden.
