PHILADELPHIA, P.A. — The Hammerheads Sled Hockey team got the surprise of a lifetime on Saturday, November 11 when they received a visit from Philadelphia Flyers legend Bob “The Hound” Kelly. Kelly, along with the Philadelphia Flyers Senior Director, Community Relations and Hockey Development, Rob Baer, presented the Hammerheads with a $10,000 grant from Philadelphia Flyers Charities. The team was also presented with Flyers uniforms to wear in the upcoming USA Hockey Sled Classic, where they’ll compete using the Flyers name.
The Sled Classic is a round-robin tournament between NHL-affiliated sled hockey teams that has been an annual tradition since 2010. The tournament will take place November 16-19 in Florida, and will be hosted by the Tampa Bay Lightning. Each team will wear the uniforms and logos of the NHL club sponsoring them, and the Hammerheads will proudly don the Flyers colors as they compete in the tournament.
Thanks to the Flyers generosity, the Hammerheads can continue to embody the ideal that hockey is truly for everyone.
