HO-HO-KUS, N.J. – In a tribute to the legacy of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, the Atlantic Affiliate is asking all teams to observe a moment of silence at the start of their first home game this week. Johnny Gaudreau, known across the hockey world as "Johnny Hockey," was a beloved NHL player, a seven-time All-Star, and a fixture in the sport who inspired countless fans with his passion and skill. His brother Matthew was equally cherished, both as a hockey player and as the head coach at Gloucester Catholic High School.
Both grew up in the local hockey community, learning the game at Hollydell Ice Arena in Sewell, New Jersey. Their love for the game began here, and their contributions to the sport will always be remembered.
Teams with public address capabilities are encouraged to use the following statement during the moment of silence:
“Before we begin today’s game, we ask you to join us in a moment of silence to honor the lives of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, who tragically passed away last week. Johnny Gaudreau, known as 'Johnny Hockey,' was a beloved NHL player whose passion for the game and incredible skill inspired fans everywhere. Both Johnny and Matthew grew up in our local hockey community, learning the game at Hollydell Ice Arena in Sewell, New Jersey, and went on to achieve great success both on and off the ice. We extend our deepest condolences to the Gaudreau family, their friends, and the entire hockey world during this difficult time. Please join us in remembering Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau as we observe a moment of silence.”
The Affiliate has donated to the fundraising drive supporting Matthew Gaudreau’s widow and their unborn child. Contributions can be made through GoFundMe.
The Gaudreau family remains in our thoughts and prayers during this unimaginable time.
