The Atlantic Amateur Hockey Association (AAHA) stands firmly in support of all referees, especially the young officials who dedicate their time to ensuring a safe and fair environment for our athletes. The recent incident in Seattle, where a parent physically assaulted two child referees, is deeply troubling and unacceptable.
Our referees—many of whom are young athletes themselves—deserve respect, protection, and appreciation for their commitment to the game. There is no place in hockey, or any sport, for physical or verbal abuse against officials at any level. Without referees, there is no game.
The AAHA remains committed to fostering a culture of sportsmanship and respect. We remind all participants—players, coaches, and spectators—that hockey is a game of integrity, and it is our collective responsibility to uphold those values. We continue to support initiatives that protect and develop referees, ensuring a safe and positive environment for everyone involved in the sport.
We stand with our officials. We stand for respect.
