STRONGVILLE, Ohio - Sunday morning was a climactic conclusion to the season and USA Hockey Nationals for the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers Girls Tier-II 19U team who went to overtime and squeezed out the title winning goal in only 33 seconds. The Philadelphia Little Flyers Girls Tier-II 16U team had a more dominating championship game, shutting out their opponent with a 3-0 victory.
Both teams managed to score two goals in the first period that would go unanswered. For the Jr. Flyers, it was Morgan O’Toole who orchestrated some magic on a power play to get on the board first against the Tri-City Eagles. Amanda Beatty would score the second goal, which would end scoring in regulation for the team. The Tri-City Eagles made a run for a regulation victory in the third period with two goals, but the Jr. Flyers’ defense managed to hold them off.
Following a pause, Kylie Chandler managed to put the puck past the netminder with the help of Amanda Beatty and earn their team the golden plate.
For the Little Flyers, Emily Sullivan managed to score both of the goals in the first period. Her initial point was assisted by Kiera Dumas, and Naomi Friedemann supported her on the second. The final goal for the Little Flyers was an empty netter scored by Darby Tisdel to secure the golden plate for the team against Steel City Selects.
