Congratulations to the Pennsylvania State Championship High School Winners! We’re proud to announce that Atlantic District teams won in all three levels (A, AA & AAA)! Games were played at Ice Line Arena, West Chester, PA on March 24th.
“It was great to play the State Championship at Ice Line again. We won our first one in 2009 there. It brought back good memories.” Stated Nicholas Russo, coach of Bayard Rustin Knights. “Winning five State Championships in a row is unbelievable. It is an honor to be mentioned in the same breath as Meadville.”
Downingtown East won the game with a score of 3-2 over Armstrong after five overtime periods. This was the longest high school championship hockey game ever played in the state of Pennsylvania. “It’s always great when you can be a part of history and this game was a history making event.” Coach Dave Hendricks stated. Downingtown East prevailed from a deflection of a point shot to give Downingtown East back-to-back state championships.
Saint Joseph’s Prep won 4-0 over Seneca Valley. When asked the secret to success, Saint Joseph’s Prep coach David Giacomin gave us a few details: “I believe the reason for our success at the end of the year was the way we played defensively in the neutral zone and limited quality chances in the defensive zone. Our team played a complete game and they were fun to watch.”
Job well done by all teams!
